Sampling Process: Laser Cutting

After Investigating into Laser cutting it was apparent that the technology was very versatile and good for fabric embellishments. My main inspiration when creating various laser cutting samples was the idea of translating braille in different ways. The laser cutter enabled be to experiment with different words and phrases which could be cut out to create a fabric embellishment on the garments. This is a great technique for my target consumer as it involves texture and layering fabrics.

This sample was paired with the glow in the dark fabric to create a layered effect. Using he braille translator online I have been able to cut out the phrase 'I am Beautiful' precisely on the fabric.

Similar to the previous, this sample uses the phrase ' I am Beautiful' however this time it is etched. This idea is only for fabric embellishment as my target consumer couldn't interact with it, however the idea of turning something exclusive to the visually impaired such as braille and placing it on a garment make it clear the garment is not just focused on the current fashion market.

The last sample I made when experimenting with laser cutting was a layering circles. I was inspired by this shrug made by Valentino which I found on Pintrest when searching 'Fabric Manipulation'

I made my own interpretation with layered cut out circles. This effect would be created by the left over from the laser cutting machine when the circles had been cut out. Unfortunately, I was unable to get my sample processed by the technician team in time to document however I recreated it with hand cut circles.
